The article presents a theoretical analysis of psychological influence, the skillful application of which can induce in another person hidden intentions that do not coincide with their actual desires. The main psychological components of Machiavellianism as a personality trait are revealed. Socio-psychological adaptation is described as the process of individual adjustment to the conditions of the social environment. The results of an empirical study on the relationship between the tendency to manipulate others and the socio-psychological adaptation of the individual are presented.
