The article provides a historical and psychological analysis of the prerequisites for the scientific conceptualization of combat mental trauma in European science. The isolation and comprehension of mental trauma in war is highlighted in relation to the desacralization of culture, the overcoming of mechanistic worldview and psychophysical reductionism in psychology, anthropology and medicine at the border of the New and Modern times
