The article presents an overview of foreign psychological research devoted to the impostor phenomenon. The dynamics of the development of views on the phenomenon are considered. Prospective directions of research within the framework of the issue have been determined, in particular, the emphasis on the situational components of the impostor phenomenon and on the development of personal experience characteristic of the phenomenon from the standpoint of benefit for the functioning and adaptation of the individual
