In modern conditions, it is important to pay attention to the emotional sphere of the individual. The Russian-Ukrainian war significantly intensified the course of distress negative mental states, which is destructively reflected in the behavioral activity of a serviceman's personality. This, in turn, «triggers the processes of emotional burnout, which in the initial stages proceed almost imperceptibly. The scientific publication focuses on the relevance of studying the retrospective of emotional burnout. The article analyzes evolutionary changes in the perception of burnout syndrome, and traces the transition from an uncertain state to a deterministic mental health care problem. The main stages of the development of the concept of emotional burnout and modern approaches to its course are considered. Special attention is paid to the growing importance of this syndrome in the conditions of increased work and emotional load caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war, globalization and technological changes. The author of the article draws parallels to the everyday perception of the category «emotional burnout» and explores the main myths about it. It is important to investigate this aspect in order to thoroughly define the researched concept to ascertain the fact of the course of this negative state and its prevention in the future. It is singled out that the process of emotional burnout manifests itself through the latent phase, which must also be taken into account
