The emphasis of the personality determines the nature and features of the adaptation process of the applicants. The types of personality accentuations that are in the conditions of higher education institutions were revealed: adaptive (asthenic); relatively adaptive (schizoid, hyperthymic, psychasthenic); and maladaptive (paranoid, depressive, hysteroid, explosive), that is, associated with a high risk of disadaptation in the first courses of study. During the adaptation period, applicants with schizoid, depressive, and explosive accentuations are dominated by depressive situational reactions, while applicants with psychasthenic and hyperthymic accentuations are dominated by situational anxiety. Individuals with hysterical and paranoid accentuations are characterized by an anxious-depressive type of response. Prognostically unfavorable for the adaptation of the acquirer in the higher education institution is the anxiety-depressive type of response and the tendency to situational depressive reactions in a stressful situation. Acquirers who are characterized by moderate situational anxiety in stressful situations, which acts as a mobilizing factor, adapt better than others. The presence of anxiety as a trait
