The article provides a critical analysis of the main psychological approaches to the problem of drug addiction: behavioral, psychoanalytic, cognitive, systemic, humanistic, existential, transactional analysis theories, and the ontosubjective approach. Their content analysis reveals the multifaceted nature of the problem and suggests that none of the existing theories or concepts in psychology fully explain the phenomena associated with drug addiction, which hinders the development of methods for its diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Based on the ontosubjective approach (V.S. Berezin, K.S. Lysetskiy), a structural psychodiagnostic model of the personality with drug addiction has been developed
