The article provides a theoretical analysis of key approaches to understanding the phenomenon of stress and its types, causes and mechanisms of stress. The scientific sources of foreign, post-Soviet and domestic authors were analyzed, and the objective and subjective causes of stress in the individual were outlined. Differences in manifestations of physiological and psychological stress are analyzed, as well as the psychological states of the body as a reaction to the influence of stress factors are briefly considered
