The article deals with intercultural competence relevant in the era of globalization and ways of its development in the adolescent period of personality formation. It is emphasized that the psychological basis of intercultural communicative competence is a certain level of tolerance, trust and sensitivity, attachment to the norms of interaction with other people. The results of the study of the peculiarities of communicative, interactive and perceptual aspects of intercultural communication of schoolchildren who are in the informational educational environment of domestic institutions of general secondary education are presented. High and very high levels of empathic abilities of schoolchildren were revealed; their ability to resolve conflicts, coordinating them through compromise and negotiations; the absence of such communication barriers as inflexibility and inadequacy of the manifestation of emotions; as well as the advantage of the subjects' average level of extroversion and neuroticism. Attention is drawn to the high rate of empathy in the attitude towards strangers and unfamiliar people, which can be considered a prerequisite for the formation of tolerance and intercultural competence of schoolchildren who grow up, study and are brought up in a cross-cultural educational environment
