The article substantiates in detail the importance of the organized development of emotional intelligence during education for the successful professional development of future psychologists. Current scientific ideas about the phenomenology of emotional intelligence and the peculiarities of its manifestation in the field of professional psychological activity are highlighted. An analysis of the conditions and factors of the development of emotional intelligence in psychology students was carried out. An empirical study of the current state of development of the components of emotional intelligence in modern students of psychological education was implemented, as a result of which it was established that the components of the cognitive level, consisting in general awareness of the emotional sphere of a person and external markers of identification of other people's experiences, are acquiring more progressive development, while the practical-effective level of functioning of emotional intelligence is insufficiently developed. It has been proven that the system of developing the emotional intelligence of psychology students in modern Ukrainian institutions of higher education needs radical improvement, and the priority forms on which psychological and pedagogical measures of its component-by-component development should be built have been determined
