The article reviews the scientific literature, analyzes and systematizes scientific works related to the study of the problems of narrative competence. The main approaches to its interpretation in foreign and Ukrainian scientific discourses are described. Narrative competence has been found to be a complex psychological construct that includes cognitive, communicative, emotional, value-meaning, and social components
