Currently, the system of higher education is constantly changing: the training of an increasing number of applicants is becoming associated with the use of distance technologies, which is why it is so important to determine motivational factors that potentially affect the academic success of applicants of various forms of education. The results showed that if strong internal motivation prevails, it sufficiently determines academic success, but if motivation is lacking or has an external character, then other components help to increase academic success, namely, self-regulation resources and a style of explaining successes and failures in educational activities
