The article examines the process of forming the “image of the USA” in the public consciousness of the Soviet population using technologies of communicative and propaganda influence during the Cold War. Negative stereotypes of public consciousness, biased and hostile attitude and “image of an external enemy” formed in the population of the USSR became determining factors in their perception of Americans. This was achieved due to the use of propaganda technologies, both direct influence based on logic and indirect influence – acted immediately on the subconscious, bypassing critical thinking
