The article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of students' adaptation to distance learning in the conditions of the pandemic. It is noted that this topic is relevant, but poorly researched, due to the variety of scientific approaches to the concept of «adaptation». It is substantiated that effective adaptation occurs when an individual effectively reacts to the requirements and social experiments that the environment sets in accordance with its gender, age and social status; when faced with new and extreme influences, the individual is able to choose the most appropriate response strategies to achieve his goals. Such an understanding of socio-psychological adaptation contains the idea of an individual's activity and his ability to carry out transformational activities. The peculiarities of adaptation of students of various courses to distance learning are analyzed, the possibilities of psychological assistance to students in order to avoid psychotraumatic situations are characterized
